Jackie Sprynczynatyk: Big Heart, Big Enthusiasm, and a Big Last Name. Let's just call her Jackie S., and get this bio party started. A child of the 80’s, she grew up idolizing the musicians she saw on TV. The Go Gos, Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, she wanted to be them.
“I knew at a young age that I was destined for greatness. My parents would catch me singing and dancing along to videos on the television. I wanted to be just like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Those women were on the edge of outrageous fashion. The colors and sounds drew me in. I was inspired and from that moment on I knew I had three choices for my future: Musician, Fashion Designer, or Make-Up Artist."
In 2004, after years of living in a small town, she packed her bags and moved to North Seattle. It was then, in meeting her roommate, that she would discover her true life's passion.
“I was introduced to high end brands of makeup. Even stage make up started to work its way into my daily palette. I started playing with the different colors and creating awesome looks. There was a world of product I had never known. I was like a kid in a candy store. I had new surroundings that were directly inspiring my own creativity.”
Jackie S. always wanted to do cosmetology/esthetics/make-up as a career but the timing had never worked out. Life had taken a detour and brought her a wonderful husband and beautiful son. Make-up took the back seat but then, when she least expected it, a friend approached her with an offer she couldn’t refuse.
“A friend of mine was making his directorial debut at a local community theater. He was presented with an opportunity to direct Fame. He approached me to be the head make-up artist/designer and I accepted immediately. I had never done theater make-up before but I knew I could rise to the challenge. This opportunity gave me the chance to teach about my craft and learn by experience. During preparations for Fame, I took a special effects position with the Kitsap County Haunted Fairgrounds. It was a rare chance for me to execute two very different types of make-up at the same time. Fame was my launch pad and because of that opportunity I was offered a position as head make-up artist/designer for productions of Willy Wonka and Wizard of Oz. I finally found myself immersed in the field I love.”
The presence and power of Jackie’s determination and passion for all things make up is a product of her vibrant personality, her commitment to family, and her foundation of experience building a career from the ground up. Youthful vitality and freshness matched with ferocious and dramatic intensity together in life and in technique, all in one hard working and motivated person.
“Make-up is an art form. I draw inspiration from all that is around me. I don’t want to limit myself to just one particular genre of make-up. Bridal, editorial, fashion, glamour, special effects, commercial, film; I want to absorb all of the knowledge that I can. There will never be a time in my life where I can honestly say I know everything there is to know about make-up. There will always be new products, trends, and techniques that will change the entire world of make-up that the possibilities are quite literally, endless. Make-up is one of those careers where the sky is the limit.”
Until next time,
Don't dream it, be it.
xoxoxo
Jackie.
